Dr Bruce Grossinger: Best Health Practices For Newbie Athletes
If you’re just getting started in your athletic career, congratulations! It’s never too late to start being athletically active. But there are some things you should know to stay healthy and safe while training in sports. Dr Bruce Grossinger will discuss some effective health practices for newbie athletes so that they can perform at their best while training and competing.
Understand The Importance Of Warming Up
Warming up for at least 10 minutes before exercise helps increase blood flow, as well as prepare your muscles for the work. You should include light cardio activity, such as jogging or cycling at an easy pace, dynamic stretching (i.e., moving your arms from side to side while reaching overhead), slow movements with weights, walking lunges, jumping jacks – anything that gets those muscles ready for action!
Know The Proper Way To Stretch
The best time to stretch is after your workout because the muscles are warm and more pliable. Stretching should be done for at least 10 minutes, but no longer than 20 minutes.
Stretch in a slow and controlled manner, so that you can feel the muscles being stretched and hear them release their tension as they lengthen. Stretch each muscle group until you feel slight discomfort (but not pain), then hold this position for about 30 seconds before releasing it again slowly back into its normal state.
Get Plenty Of Rest If Possible
The amount of sleep you need varies from person to person, Dr Bruce Grossinger but on average most adults need between seven and nine hours every night. If you’re not getting enough shut-eye, it can negatively affect your health as well as your ability to perform at peak levels during training sessions or competitions.
To improve your quality of sleep, you should avoid going to bed hungry or stuffed (overstuffed). This can cause indigestion that keeps you awake at night. And even if the food isn’t causing problems with digestion, eating too much before bedtime will result in more trips to the bathroom throughout the night!
